Rancho Quitapenas Lodge

The owner was very rude to us. The breakfast consisted of egg, ham, cheese and bread for self service; however the amounts were minimal. After 2 days we had to buy our own breakfast because the owner said one egg per person is enough. She had the same attitude always, for example there was no internet the first night and instead of trying to fix it, she started to question why we need internet anyway.

My husband and I just recently came back from Chile. We spent a week in the Atacama desert and stayed at Rancho Quitapenas.This place is about 15-20 minutes drive on dirt road south of downtown. All roads are dirt roads in San Pedro except for highways. We got one of the bungalows and had our own kitchen.Main good things:- Nice and quiet. No craziness of touristy downtown.- Price is reasonable. We stayed 6 nights and paid 284,000 Chilean pesos.- The owner Jorge is very friendly and personable, he loves people and loves to chat, but he doesn't grab you and talk non-stop.- The owner is also very honest and helpful. He has a price list of tour operations from 3rd party so I guess he took a cut if his guests booked any of the tours. But he told us since we had the truck we could drive anywhere we wanted to see and even gave us great driving directions.- The room and environment are in general clean and comfortable. No fluffy and luxury but if you want fluffy and luxury a desert should not be your destination anyway.Some things you need to know:- We did not get room service or cleaning, which we did not care and did not even ask. I'm sure if you ask, the owner would clean the room for you. But it's in the desert so we did not feel like we needed to waste the water.- The owner would leave you alone unless you ask for something. We were running out of toilet paper (we both had colds and were blowing our noses constantly) and had to ask a new roll.Overall we both considered it a great choice. It's quiet, low key, comfy, and you get your privacy even though you are on someone's private property.

Lovely place to come and visit. The garden is lovely with all the native plants. The house is beautifully designed and decorated with some self-made glassworks. The chamber we stayed in was spacious and neat. You had places to stock in your clothes (although we were too lazy, don't mind our stuff on the pictures). A nice bathroom with a hot shower/bath. They have three dogs, who are well trained and really lovable (they need a lot of pets though). We are not really used to dogs, but these were lovely. We also used the cozy kitchen, which has everything you need. It is located a bit far from the center, some might find this a disadvantage, but we really enjoyed the walk. If you don't like to walk you can always take a taxi. The distance also makes the place more tranquil. The owners are open and welcoming people who make you feel at ease immediately. They told us we were the first visitors after the pandemic, so they're off to a great start!

We loved this place. Our stay was really enjoyable. We got a beautifull room with a nice private bathroom and a cute little kitchen. We had our own patio where we could relax with a view on the green garden. At the end of the garden is a sanddune where we watched the sunset going down in de dessert. If you would walk straight forward from that point, you would be in the valle de la Luna. The hostfamily is really friendly and they make you feel at home. Their English is very good.The house of the family is like a fairytail. Techy makes her own art windows and pottery. They build their house around a tree. This is a amazing architecture. There are 3 dogs and they are very cute and calm. Normally i am not a dogperson but these were great. They joined us for the sunset. There is a lot more to discover for shure.This is way we would recommed this place a lot. The perfect place to relax
