Whale Watching Chile

We loved that tour! In mid-December we saw several fin whales and many marine animals and birds on the nearby islands. Caleta Chanaral appeared relatively undiscovered for whale watching and this, in itself, was very refreshing. Our guide made the day unforgettable experience with good food and fantastic sites.

Whale-tastic and so worth every cent!Wal-tastisch und jeden Cent wert!Bereits im Voraus war die Kommunikation mit Nina super. Auch nach der Buchung (und vor der Tour) hat sie alle Fragen blitzschnell beantwortet. Es war einfach sehr rund. Ein paar Tage vor der Tour kam die Bestätigungsmail sowie eine Info zum Tour-Guide, Zita, mit ihrer Nummer. Zita hat sich von alleine per WhatsApp gemeldet und nochmal alles bestätigt. Wir sind also mit einem sehr sicheren Gefühl morgens um 7.30 Uhr abgeholt worden.Zita und unser Fahrer, Juan, war super pünktlich da. Nachdem alle eingestiegen waren, ging die etwa 1,5-stündige Fahrt nach Caleta Chanaral de Aceituno los. Zwischendrin gab es einen Frühstücksstop. Wer hier nur fertig belegte Sandwiches erwartet, wird von den Socken gehauen. Die Auswahl war besser als in manch einem Hotel. Wirklich klasse und definitiv das erste Highlight.Auf der Fahrt haben wir für Guanacos und kleine Füchse angehalten. Sehr niedlich - und die Anzahl beeindruckend.Im Fischerdörfchen angekommen ging es auch bald mit Don Pato los. Auf seinem nicht gerade großen Boot schipperten wir fröhlich auf den Pazifik. Mehrere Wasservögel begrüßten uns, Seelöwen schwammen, turnten und sonnten sich. Hier und da mal ein Pinguin (whoop!). Als mini-Highlight konnten wir zwei Otter beobachten, ehe Don Pato den ersten Blow" gesehen hat.Bei Sonne

The best trip I've done so far! I didn't expect it to be that wonderful! We were on the boat and there were 2-5 fin whales swimming next to us, so close that I could even see them under the water! Traveling with Zita - the guide and founder was the best. She is not only knowledgeable but also very passionate about the animals. Not to mention, she's thoughtful and cheerful all the time. I truly felt like I was in good hands while taking the tour with them. Highly recommend!

Ich habe die „Whale Watching“ Tour bei Ecoturismo La Serena gebucht. Die Buchung war sehr unkompliziert über WhatsApp. Morgens wurde ich dann pünktlich von meinem Guide Felipe Torres abgeholt. Von Anfang an war die Stimmung sehr gut, was insbesondere dem lustigen, aber auch informierten Guide zu verdanken ist. Auf der Tour wurde Spanisch und Englisch gesprochen. Das Englisch war wirklich sehr gut, sodass man Felipe optimal verstehen konnte und nebenbei auch ein paar Sätze Spanisch lernen konnte. Auf dem Weg zur Hauptattraktion gab es immer wieder die Möglichkeit auf Klo zu gehen oder sich was zu trinken zu kaufen. Zudem gab es viele interessante Informationen. Wenn es was Interessantes auf dem Weg zu sehen gab, haben wir angehalten und konnten so in Ruhe die schöne Natur und die Tierwelt Chiles bewundern. Am Bootsableger angekommen haben wir kurz ein paar coole Gruppenfotos gemacht und dann ging das richtige Abenteuer los. Wir sind mit dem Boot auf den Pazifik herausgefahren und konnten relativ schnell die ersten Wale sehen. Bei vielen Touren wäre das wahrscheinlich das Ende gewesen, wir haben jedoch Geduld bewiesen und haben es letztendlich geschafft direkt neben dem 2 größten Wal und dem 2 größten Tier der Welt zu sein. Es war unbeschreiblich schön. Nachdem wir intensiv die Wale beobachtet haben und viele Informationen über sie bekommen haben, ging es weiter. Wir haben neben den Walen noch Seelöwen und Pinguine gesehen, sowie verschiedene Vögel. Alle Tiere konnte Felipe identifizieren und interessant Informationen zu ihnen gehen. Auf dem Weg zurück haben wir dann nochmal Wale gesehen. Anschließend ging es zurück in Richtung La Serena. Auf dem Weg hielten wir noch bei einem Restaurant an. Das Essen war im Preis mit inbegriffen und sehr lecker. Es gab verschiedene Auswahlmöglichkeiten, darunter auch ein vegetarisches und ein veganes Gericht. Nun war die Tour aber endgültig vorbei, dachten wir zumindest. Da es uns nicht gelungen ist, Füchse zu sehen, hat Felipe uns zusätzlich ein anderes Naturspektakel gezeigt. Wir sind hoch auf die Berge gefahren und konnten dort sehen, wie der Nebel wie ein Wasserfall die Berge runterfließt. Es war wirklich unbeschreiblich.Mein Fazit zur Tour ist, dass man wahrscheinlich nirgendwo so eine perfekte Tour buchen kann, um Wale zu beobachten. Denn neben den Walen gab es noch so vieles mehr, weshalb die Tour eigentlich einen anderen Namen bräuchte. Vor allem zu dem Preis ist die Tour unschlagbar und definitiv einer der Highlights meiner Südamerikareise.Vielen Dank an Felipe, du hast deinen Job wirklich überragend gemacht. Man konnte so viel sehen und so viel lernen. Macht weiter so!

THE tour to book! Whether you are a wildlife fanatic, or not even so much; you will love this tour. The enthousiasm with which tourguide Zita shares her love for Whales, Guanacas, Desert Foxes, Sea Lions and a lot more beautiful creatures living in the area has a very infectuous effect on the entire group. If you didnt love animals before; you will after this tour. Plus, they give so much info on every aspect of these animals, you will feel like an expert yourself!The day starts off early, since it is a 2 hour ride to where the boat tour starts. But you can step out of bed into the car without breakfast; because everything is taken care off by Zita. During this ride Zita will tell you already so much about the environment and the animals living there, time will fly. Halfway there is a breakfast break in the middle of the desert. Be aware; it will be the most elaborate breakfast you will have on your entire holiday; so dont eat too much before!:)Once you arrive at the small town/harbour you are welcomed by the local guardians of nature (CONAF). You also meet their local partners who offer the boat and are the experts on where to spot the whales and other animals. As all chilean people appear to be, they are incredibly friendly and helpful to make your day great.The boat tour takes about 2 hours, in which your mind will get blown away. Obviously, spotting whales and dolphins is not guaranteed (apparently its difficult to make whales and dolphins appear on command;) ), so you will need to have some luck. For our tour, we did. We were shown a beautiful Whale after being on the water for only 2 minutes or so! Its an amazing sight. During this tour the love for wildlife Zita and the locals share, is very clear and the enthousiasm they educate the guests with is brilliant. Next to the whale, we saw a group of around 100 dolphins (very rare!), an isle filled with Sealions which were actually giving birth at the moment we were there, lazily chilling Seals, happily eating Marine Otter, funny looking Penguins and many other birds. All of which are so close you could almost touch them!After the boat tour, you are taken to a local restaurant for lunch. Tastes very good and you can try some local specialties. Be aware; after this moment your energy levels will be at a low due to all the spectacle. However, Zita is prepared for this; all will have a comfortable neck pillow for the ride to the next stop. Since locals in this region are either fishermen or olive farmers, you will also get a short tour at an olive farm.In summary; this will the one of the most spectacular, action packed, nature loving days you will ever have. Great value for money for a day never to forget, allowing you to take pictures that normally you will find only in National Geographic magazines and such.Big thanks to Whale Watching Chile for this unforgetable experience!

Amazing experience

Absolutely amazing day out to see whales. This is a perfectly organised tour, with lovely personal details. I 100% highly recommend it.

What an amazing experience.Firstly, and obviously the main reason for the trip was the wildlife. Fin whales were the stars of the show and we were taken up close and personal with them for a couple of hours which was a genuinely incredible experience. As Zita our guide kept telling us, there are no guarantees, but the captain is apparently an old pro at this so we managed to see lots of them, really close, close enough to be covered by sea water when they surfaced. As well as that we were taken to see Sea Lions, wild otters, and lots of birds. Amazing.All of that is really what you sign up for with a trip like this. What set this apart from other wildlife tours I've been on was the way the whole trip was organised. It was perfect from start to finish.Being picked up on time from our hostel was a pleasant surprise (first time I think it's happened in South America).Breakfast was incredible, really want to focus on that because as much as I like whales, I love breakfast and my experiences on similar tours have tended to be disappointing so what Zita and the team put together in the desert for us was amazing. Lots of really good food and a brilliant way to start the day! Lunch was also lovely (although not quite as good as the breakfast) at a little restaurant by the dock.The vehicles were all in perfect condition and the driver and captain were obviously very experienced and took great care of us. Again, just having a seatbelt would have put this above most other vans I'd travelled in up until this tour!The real difference though came from Zita our guide who from start to finish catered to our every need and had a sense of enthusiasm that it was impossible not to get swept up in. She has a clear love and knowledge of wildlife, and whales in particular, which she was happy to share and really added to the trip.On the whole a 5* experience and I will definitely go again next time I'm in Chile!
