Though the process wasn't super easy to get started it was worth it! You have to find a main station that has a tent, where you can speak with someone and get a card (see photo) that will allow you to take the bikes out. We rented bikes for 72 hours and took them all over the city, instead of the metro/buses and taxis. It's not cheap for a tourist (I think it was a little under $50), but you don't have the 30 minute limit and they were pretty easy (we also love biking). I definitely suggest downloading the BikeSantiago app to see where stations are located, how many bikes are there, etc. The bike condition was really a mixed bag -- some where in perfect condition, others had completely flat tires or no working breaks. The bikes are really top heavy, so just be aware of that. And there are no helmets -- stick to the bike paths, if you can! Though almost everyone here rides on the sidewalks, which was super strange for us coming from the States. :)
